We looked at Days of Wine and Roses in 2011 (if you're following along). So, our standard for Aug 2025 will be Solitude (Duke Ellington, Eddie De Lang, Irving Mills, 1934).

Thx! I did a few takes on solo vibes and wasn't feelin it as much. I think I'm either gonna do vibes combo or solo piano for recordings in the future. Might be too lazy to work up a vibes combo tune for this.

Playing chords on the vibes is much harder, right? Are you doing that yet? I know it's a new instrument for you. The multi-mallet chord playing technique of guys like Gary Burton amazes me.

That was a lovely lullaby ragman, seriously, you may have found your musical niche.

I ain't even messing with 4 mallets lol! I'm not a big technique guy, plus I have piano already for full chords. My goal would be to play a tune solo like Milt here at 47:28 because I think that sounds outstanding. But I'm not quite there yet. I'm better at solo piano since I have 20 years experience at it. I guess I can't jump to that level after playing vibes for 6 months. I guess I could keep working at it but I think vibes combo and solo piano is enough variety and focuses on my strong suits.

Can't argue with that, pretty impressive.

I'm sorry but we just cannot allow Mr. Stratitis to be the only forum member to post a non-guitar version of this tune so I will second his motion.

Thank you, I added a second take, a better key for me so easier to improvise.

T'would be better if I accompanied myself on the guitar but that would entail a major adjustment of my recording set-up.

You're welcome. Piano sounds just as good I would say.

Thought I'd do a folkie version of this tune, it's a bit rough but I don't plan to release it as a single so it'll do for now.
