Well, maybe it doesn’t sound like anything anyone has ever heard before? Nah, no way. Everything sounds like something, but I just can’t place it. Maybe from a past life!

Eastern European/middle eastern vibe, not unlike, say, "Nature Boy," though that's probably just overlap in those scales. Could as easily be "Dona Dona." The vocalise doesn't seem to have any particular linear melody line, at least on a first listen.

Thanks, you’re hearing the flavor of it, same as I’m hearing it. There’s still something on the tip of my ear that I can’t place. Thanks for listening.

Sounds like one of the jam sessions I'd hear at the Ali Akbar Khan College of Music back in the day, when the tabla player couldn't make it. In fact, you'd sound better with a tabla player or percussionist, it starts to sound dirge-like after a while due to the the lack of rhythmic variety.

Dirges are my specialty really, I’ve turned Giant Steps and Cherokee into dirges and lived to tell about it.

In terms of melodic and harmonic invention, you guys are tops, but rhythm is your one deficiency. I bet you'd find it musically stimulating to have a percussionist sit in, it can make a big difference.

    .

of course we would. Percussion of every sort is fantastic for grooves and texture. We actually do have a guy in mind to add to this particular trio, but getting schedules aligned is always challenging as he’s very busy and in-demand. Shiri is actually working with him in NYC next month on a gig and she’s also releasing a trio album with a Brazilian percussionist as we speak. It’s all good

I'm not well enough versed in middle eastern music to begin to say what other songs it might sound like. But I like it.

Well, me neither, but Shiri is Israeli so I’m just following her lead on this.

I understand. All I meant was that I don't know what other song(s) it might sound like, but I might if I knew the music better. But I don't, so I don't.

Ah, so you can syncopate after all!

The title, "hands off," doesn't quite fit though, what with all the hand puppet gestures your singer is making. "Hands up" or "a hand out" would be better.
