I think it's just a plain Dm7 chord, you can create harmonic movement just by playing different voicings of the same chords, for example:
| x-0-2-0-1-0 | > | x-x-0-2-3-1 | > | x-0-x-5-5-3 | > | x-x-0-2-3-1 | (or) | x-x-0-5-6-5 |
P.S. - Actually, one of the horn players is playing a B (third below the high D), which would make it a Dm13 chord - probably best to stick to Dm7 on guitar though.

With our singer on the Moondance outro (versus the chorus you asked about that I play as Am-D9 variations x 7 then Bm-E alt) I’m usually doubling the melody against descending Am G / F Em / Dm E / Am chord variations - the last two chords with increasing optional coloration esp. on the last (if not just going back first to an Am vamp):
(Ex. bottom strings)
x x 7 5 5 5
x x 5 4 5 5
x x 3 5 3 5
x x 2 4 3 5
x x 0 2 3 1
x x 2 1 3 3
x x 6 5 5 7
(Ex. middle strings)
x 12 10 9 10 x
x 10 9 9 10 x
x 8 10 9 10 x
x 7 9 7 10 x
x 5 7 7 6 x
x 7 6 7 8 x
x 0 10 9 9 10Last edited by Geechnyc; 03-16-2025 at 02:12 PM.

That was on the live version, that horn player may have been too radical for the original recording date.

Chord melody option fingerings on chorus after pickup note (“Can”) on first string fifth fret A:
Am7 - D9
5 x x 5 5 3
x 5 4 5 5 5
Am11 - D7
5 x 5 5 3 x
x 5 4 5 3 x
Am - D7 (twice, once before chorus last bar)
5 x 2 2 x x
x 5 4 5 3 x
Am - E7#5 (chorus last bar)
5 x 2 2 x x
x 5 6 5 5 x
