There is a blog in JGO about Groovin High
Groovin' High - Melody For Jazz Guitar (Tabs & Video)

Oh that’s cool. You can slow it down too.
-
Flintstones? Why not Ren and Stimpy?

-
I suspect that Miss Ann would be too hard for most people, with it's big interval leaps and such it's practically a picking exercise.
-
I’ll be up for Miss Ann. Cool head and I don’t really know anything like it, so it would be good for me. It’s not really bebop anymore at that point, a sort of mutant bebop haha. Like those bonkers Tristano heads which I should also learn.

Too right. Master of chromatic perfection :-)

Then why do they call it the digit blender?

I have no idea, tell me.

Are we talking about the same thing? This thread's about learning the heads of the tunes, not soloing. The heads of the other tunes here are very boppy and complicated but Flintstones is about as simple as it can get. I mean, it's simply not a challenge unless you can barely play anything at all. So I'm not sure we're talking about the same thing when you call it a digit blender.

It’s also Rhythm Changes, not that hard to solo over.
-
Exactly. In fact it's easier than RC, it doesn't do the Eb/Ebm thing in the middle. It's just 1625 repeated the whole time. No secondary doms either. Unless you reharm it.
-
I was kidding about it being difficult, although probably difficult enough for someone like me lol

I found a lead sheet for Miss Ann (version #2) that Dave Creamer gave me. He only wrote the notes out, not the chords, so I borrowed the ones from the Jazz LTD chart. The fingerings shown are mine. His key is 1/2 step higher than the Real Book/Jazz LTD and there are a couple of notes that are different. I'm unsure about the chord in measure 12, Jazz LTD has a m7b5 whereas the Real Book has a full dim.7

The Flintstones tune is extremely difficult if you are a caveman playing it on a 35,000 year old guitar made of petrified wood - but at least you will have a Yabba Dabba Doo time playing it.

I saw Jim Mullen the other night, he finished his set with the ‘University Challenge’ TV theme - another rhythm changes contrafact.
Not the first time he’s done it apparently, here’s one a few years ago (full of cheeky quotes!)
-
He started so he finished.

There appears to be a pile of logs onstage, also quite unusual!

The most unusual thing is that one player plays with the thumb, the other with a pick.

Well, it is nearly winter and you never know...
