Try the toe twitch. Ya ain't gotta be Ray Charles up there.
I learned it from a cat who plays violin in a sinfonetta...you can't tap in that environment, the acoustics are often too good.

I can't tap my toes that fast.

I used to be a notoriously bad foot tapper. It drove some guys crazy, or humored them. I didn't seem to have problems with my timing. But my foot had a mind of it's own. Since I've put attention to it and as far as I know, my tapping has improved immensely. I didn't tap to the quarter note, particularly. My foot was connected to my playing - hitting accents and offbeats. Very confusing.

Yes, I find it a lot easier to lift my heel than the front part of my foot.

fwiw, I found at least the first 2 sound samples in the premier guitar article to terribly poor examples, more accurately an example of someone doing it wrong. I didn't bother to listen past ex #2 but that guitar was not consistently in sync with the metronome, the majority being early. I find it difficult to believe that that could be JL playing.Last edited by whiskey02; 09-12-2015 at 11:48 AM.
