Use of compression in guitar recording

I use compression for acoustic or clean electric guitars but never on heavy tones

PS, perhaps the biggest reason to avoid tracking acoustic with compression, especially as a beginner, is the increased noise floor.

Many people play borderline "too quiet" and wonder why their acoustic tracks are noisy, compression will only make things worse. And that’s not even taking into account environmental noise like traffic HVAC etc..

Isn't that how you're supposed to play acoustic guitar - amplification takes care of volume and how else are you going to get velvety tones?
