i have as basic of a setup as it gets...definitely willing to upgrade my stuff, just don't know where to start and am overwhelmed by the amount of info. i just want good sounding recordings of solo guitar stuff, both good acoustic and for my amp.
what i used on this...a sm57 about 8" from the center of one of the speakers (2x10"), a shure mic that plugs into your iphone that got some acoustic stuff. i used audacity and some video editor app to combine the sound and video files...it's a blend of acoustic and amp (more amp tho). high and low pass filters, no EQ adjustments post or anything tho. the speakers i tested on were crappy laptop speakers, jbl studio monitors, a bluetooth speaker, a big powered speaker and my phone.
1. is this a good recording? it sounded different on all the speakers...good on some, really bad on others. like how am i supposed to know if anything sounds good if there's not much consistency?
2. if it sounds this different in quality, is it something im doing wrong in terms of setting up the recording?
im not looking to reinvent the wheel here...it's just this guitar is freaking sweet and i wanna make it sound good.

For what it’s worth, I think it sounds good on my iPhone. Really clean, levels are good, string squeak is low and I can’t hear the performer breathing which are two things that turn me off solo guitar. Personal taste is all.
It sounds nice, you can’t control inconsistency. Just let that go.

It sounds good to me Spencer on my Yamaha monitors. I think for mixing you either choose your destination mix and ignore other stuff or else try and draw an average across all the possibilities. (You didn't mention car speakers) The goal then is to not have it crash on any of the possible destinations; but rather sound acceptable on everything. Be real careful with extreme highs and lows and look carefully on your spectrum analyzer for any troublesome spikes that might cut through too much on some systems. Don't be afraid to play with the eq. Use headphones too, maybe run a direct in to compare with, those 10" speakers and your amp are controlling a lot of your sound for better or worse. Post on different sites and let them nit pick it.
One technique is to use a reference track, which would be a professional recording of similar material that you like. Put it into Audacity in parallel with your track, compare the two, and then eq your track to match the pro track.
There are pros online who will assist for a price; depends on how dedicated you are.

Similar to a sound I'd use for playing in guitar duos. A less treble more middle sound.

Thanks all of you, this is what I was looking for. Just want to do this guitar the justice it deserves.
ngl i really kinda wanna find some of those Yamaha ns10 speakers to hear how truly bad they are lol.

Dude thank you, that means a ton /fist bump

Well my Yamahas are HS 5 but Spencer's guitar sounds good on them. Don't know what that means for any of us

Sounds good! Nice balance on the strings, no mud, good and punchy, in a nice way.

I think the sound is good and the playing is good.
If I were to nitpick, I think I hear a hint of harshness on some of the chords. I don't know if, or how, to improve it. One thing I'd try is cutting some midrange. Maybe that would help? I don't really know. Another thing I'd try is raising the amp volume and lightening up on the right hand. So that you get the same resulting volume, but with gentler picking.
Please take these comments with a grain of salt. I hear the same hint of harshness in my gear and I find it frustrating. Caveat: my hearing is impaired so I could be wrong about all of it.
