He comes across as such a sweet, humble, and articulate person. I love the way he talks about his playing. I don't know a ton about him but he has such a unique way of looking at music and guitar. I guess when you're that good you have nothing to prove to anyone!

A great guy and a great player. He's been so deep in it for so long. Really interesting to hear him talk about music. Makes me feel like a caveman. Here's a couple of moments for someone who maybe doesn't have an hour+:
Around 54min he talks about his dystonia. Man... what a weird thing and what a weird therapy. Fascinating and scary.
At around 1hr 12 he plays an amazing improv on Autumn Leaves. Fascinating and scary too :-)
Listening to his tune up routine right before that is fun.
Born to play Fender I guess:

I didn’t expect to like the interview. Something about Beato irks me. But I really found it fascinating. Lage is on another level, but in an relatable way. I learned a few nuggets and was inspired to pick up and play some Autumn Leaves. Really worth the time to watch.

Beato irks me too... but when he interviews people, he reigns in his arrogant omniscience. I'm sure he's a good guy, he just rubs me the wrong way sometimes... he's one of those people who present his opinions as objective fact instead of opinion. But hey, I don't have to watch him.... I only watch his interviews, not any of his "you're playing the wrong strings" (or whatever) ones.

Great interview! It's refreshing to hear an interviewer actually be able to call out the notes of some unusual voicing, like around 22:30 when they start talking about that F chord (F, C, A, G#, open B...).
Thanks for the link.

I'm not so sure he is a great guy. I remember a live stream where he went off badmouthing his son, calling him lazy for not wanting to play the oboe. I mean, I get it, teenagers can be tough, but venting in such a public way to thousands of people is way out of "good guy"-territory.

Rick Beato is the Novak Djokovic of music vloggers. A lot of what he does is great and his channel is arguably one of the best ever. Yet there is a lack of innocence about him that's hard to pinpoint. It could be just how he comes across on the screen. He could be the nicest person ever in person. But something about his vibe on the videos makes it hard for me to fully embrace his content.
Though it must be said that a lot of people don't seem to feel that way at all about him.
-
I find Rick Beato difficult to listen to, but if the interview was good I'll watch it.
Novak Djokovic lacks innocence? He grew up in a war, hitting balls on the bottom of an empty swimming pool, rising to the top against all odds. It takes a fair bit of innocence to achieve that, not in a cornball sense. Proven great guy and in the top 2 or 3 best in tennis history. Novak is a folk hero, big game, big heart, I love him. It's not unfair to Rick Beato to say that he's not quite in that league.
-
I'm not saying that Novak is not innocent as in he is guilty. But there is no question that tennis fans around the world has been hesitant to embrace him like they embraced Federer or Nadal. It seems like there is something about his vibe that makes him less easily likeable to the general public. It's not a reflection on who he actually is as a person.

FWIW, I’m a big Rick Beato fan.
I especially like his interviews, like this one, where he gets all star struck. He was the same way with Peter Frampton and Steve Gadd.
The Sting interview, however, is unwatchable, largely owing to Sting’s undying self-reverence.
-
Yes, it seemed to me like Sting didn't even know who Rick Beato was or has watched any of his videos. It was probably just a promotional interview set up by his agent.

I love Sting, super unique and super talented, but +1000% on this!
