There is a Scottish guitarist called Roy Marchbank who, from time to time,
plays a fretless with an Uzbeki group. If you scroll to the 04:30 mark you can catch his soloing:

    His website is found at:

Did you ever build one? I would buy it.

Ned Evett plays fretless with an interesting approach.

He's playing a glass guitar, also interesting.

I went to college with Timothy Donahue, who even back then (this was ~40+ years ago) had a distinctive voice and impressively comprehensive grasp of fretless guitar...the more current stuff of his I've heard is even more mind-boggling.

Adrian Belew played a bunch of fretless guitar on his solo album Desire Caught By The Tail, and on King Crimson's Three Of A Perfect Pair.

Marc Ducret (mentioned earlier in this thread) played some fretless guitar on Tim Berne's Caos Totale albums.

...oh, and I just remembered another one: Randy Roos played fretless guitar all over his 1978 album Mistral (which also features Mike Stern).

He has fret markers on his fingerboard, that's cheating!

Slide guitar though, wrong genre.... people who live with glass guitars should not play rock.
