That's not a pickup on the tailpiece, it's just the jack for the pickup located at the end of the fretboard.

In my mind, this photo is both charming and about an idea yet everyone is focused on the gear. People are so much more interesting than tailpieces and knobs - at least to me.

The little man in the photo is younger than my 6 year old grandson but I beam with joy every time he picks up a guitar and starts to strum.
