This is from a "celebrity" edition of the popular BBC TV quiz, Mastermind. I was very surprised to see free-improv supremo, Derek Bailey, being comedian, Stewart Lee's specialist subject. He does very well indeed. I hope you can view this in your part of the world.

I like this concept, I wish they'd do a run on this side of the pond.
-
That's some serious knowledge about Derek Bailey.

I scored five points...

only in the uk!...stewart knows his bailey! well done
cheers
-
Wow! I can't imagine Bailey is generally known in the UK, but how well known is he amongst British jazz fans?
-
He is well known to jazz and alternate-music fans, and he also presented a TV series on improvisation in different cultures across the world. I was a fan back in the 70s.
This has given me the chance again to share my Homage to Derek Bailey, whether you want it or not:

Yup, that's the Japanese-made d"Aquisto, which I wish I still had. Still, one of my students is doing good things with it.
Cheers, curbucci, croft, and neatomic!

I saw DB a couple of times (solo & with Barry Guy) & there was a bit too much pulling a heavy metal chain over an es175 for me.
+1 for your video, hope you're back in the groove.

Thanks, voxsss, haven't heard that in a while. Big Webern fan here.
Cheers, dot175. I'm well over covid, and back to my usual 80%

I have the 3 cd set The Sign of 4 with Pat Metheny, Gregg Bendian and Paul Wertico. I haven't listen to any of it in 20 years. I think I'll give it another listen sometime soon. If I remember correctly, it's free form improvising all the way through and can be a little challenging to follow.

I'm stealing some licks!
