getzs nickname was actually -the sound!....& it's a clue in the ny times crossword puzzle these days!!!

allen eager was the basis for the lead character in one of the early books of the beat generation...john clellon holmes - the horn

played tenor with one of my fave trumpet players ever- tony fruscella...who i hold with miles and chet for 50's trumpet...

metropolitan blues...fru & eager...real old school nyc jazz guys!!

I used Stan Getz’ I Can’t Get Started when I was learning it. His tone and technique and melody made it so easy to listen to over and over again)))

yeah, wm...getz with strings!...tho, my fave is focus! getz doin edde sauter compositions/arrangements!...supposedly getz just came in and blew over the completed arrangements

one of the great jazz with strings lps..(along wth art peppers winter moon!)

I always think of the really good and really successful albums SG made.

In 1956 he kills it with JS on 'Moonlight in Vermont ',

then six years later nails it again with CB on 'Jazz Samba' !!

Not sure about exact sales, but each was #1, or close etc.

Stan w/the legendary Rene Thomas and organist Eddie Louis.
They did a tour in Europe during this time, Rene was getting some exposure overseas playing w some great American musicians at the time on both sides of the pond, Sonny Rollins picked him up and even cut a record w him. I think Rene was working in Canada at the time.

I don't know. Will Shortz is still editing, AFAIK. I just finished* a book titled Ferocious Puzzles or somesuch and it was a beast. I do CWDs to offset some of the damage to my verbal skills due to a TIA many years ago. It finally dawned on me that while composing the puzzle itself is a considerable feat, it's the clues/hints/misdirections where the evil genius lies. I love 'em.

* If by finished one means "filled in." Actually solving? Not quite so much.
