    Neat!
Frank and Jimmy play wonderfully well together. (They recently put out a CD.)

Here they are at a recent Iridium gig playing a song Herb Ellis loved to play, Cole Porter's "I Love You."

I do no understand this live play along thing. 30 msec delay is absolutely the max what can be tolerated, and because live play alongs has no possibility to compensate this (opposed to a multitrack recording with any modern DAW). There is approx 15-20 msec orf the sound card, then 30-50msec Internet (best case) it is total of 50-70ms both direction, which makes the total percieved delay way above 100ms. How can anyone swing or grove in this condition? This delay even renders a human conversation to difficult but at least noticeable, and surely kills jazz.

    what am I missing here?

You can play along with somebody at your end provided they ignore you or mute you. This is what I often do in remote lessons now.

Obviously makes two way musical interaction impossible, but does allow the student to lock in with the feel of a more experienced musician which is worthwhile.

Jimmy looks and sounds great. Miracles do happen!

Always lots to learn from Jimmy’s soloing. Not so much speed demon shredding as nice phrasing. I love watching talented guitarists play together, because you realize there’s a conversation going on, where each player speaks exactly the same language. (And yes it can be done with different instruments, like Evans and Hall, but think of it as people speaking different languages trying to converse together.)

Jimmy places great emphasis on rhythms and phrasing in his teaching. But make no mistake, he can wind it up when the occasion calls for it.

Speed = rhythmic accuracy + relaxation
