I'd love to hear from someone that voted for Lee Ritenour and why.

His appeal has always been a mystery to me.

Having read about Lee for decades I never really knew much about him. I stumbled across this video and dug the whole vibe.

Joe Pass and Metheny are my top two from that list. One main reason is that I've seen both live and both were brilliant. I was lucky to see Joe in a jazz club in Detroit in the early 80's and Pat several times at the Detroit Jazz Fest in more recent years. I would have liked to seen Mike Stern on the list.

What? Where did you see Joe pass in Detroit?

Sadly, no I have not. One of my many regrets.

As a big fan of Ted Greene and Tim Lerch, I've just discovered Ray Garner!

At the Central Coast jazz workshop Tim Lerch was one of the instructors. He played in the bar\lounge and there he was playing solo guitar with singing.

For me, it will always be Kenny Burrell. When I was first learning to play guitar, I was really into Stevie Ray Vaughn and loved the song Chitlins Con Carne. I had an older friend tell me that it was actually a cover of a Kenny Burrell song. I then discovered the "Midnight Blue" album and never looked back. Coming from a blues background, KB made Jazz accessible to me. A little less intimidating perhaps? from there I found Wes, Grant Green, George Benson, Herb Ellis, Barney Kessel, Joe Pass, etc. But for me, I'll always be a KB fan first and foremost.

No Howard Roberts on this poll? I'm a newcomer to his playing. He sounds like a more chops driven Kenny Burrell. He's incredible.

There can only be so many possible-selections (due to how the poll is designed), thus many first-rate guitar players are missing.

Roberts is indeed incredible. I've been lucky enough to see him live at least 3 times when he would play at Donte's in West Hollywood California.

Wes for me. Ever since I saw him live. Mpls. TVI April 1966. Got back stage and talked with him. Of course got his and Wynton Kelly’s trio autographs.

I like all of the other “candidates” but that 1966 meeting did it for me.
