Hi, M,
Many musicians are great technicians but fail to communicate on a personal level. I believe we, as individuals, listen to musicians/compositions that give us pleasure and say something to us musically. I rarely listen to "Hard-core Bop," "Progressive Jazz,' "New Age Jazz," or "Fusion." There's nothing there that touches me on a personal level.
Play live! . . . Marinero

Here's one of my favorite Jack Wilkins videos, and it also has some other great players:

It is impossible to overstate the unique combination of blazing skill and ceaseless musicality which is embodied by Michael Moore.

I only caught him once in person, there was a guy in Philly named Fred Miles who was a big jazz advocate, he'd been championing jazz forever and going to shows since the 50s.

So one time about 40 years ago he brought Al Cohn down for a concert at the Ethical Society, a great little 100 year old venue at the time.
Al brought John Bunch on piano and Moore on bass w him and called Bobby Durham on drums who was from Philly.
Those guys swung the doors off of that place, Al was getting toward the end, he sat in a chair w his tenor between his legs all night but sounded as great as ever, he filled up the room w no mic.
The only drag was Fred didn't promote his own event and there was only about 20 people there but it was w real thrill hearing those guys.
