sounds great, hope he gets a scholarship to Berklee.
there are many young classical musicians who are very prodigious, so it shouldn't surprise me that there are likewise some young jazz prodigies, but it always does. i know it sounds corny, but something about jazz seems to require an old soul.
-
If he can deal with the industry he will have a long wonderful career ahead of him. Definitely someone to keep an eye out for.
-
Whoa, I'm in the "this kid is spooky good" camp. Amazing talent.
-
As many of us spend a lifetime leaning and advancing our abilities. There are prodigies with unexplainable inherent abilities that seem to transcend reason. Players such as this that seem to have the soul of old masters in his DNA and an affinity for Jazz. I say sit back and enjoy what transpires.
-
See I reckon there aren't any inherent abilities (except for good ears). Most of the great players started young so when they were in their 20's they had already been playing for a long time.

He has been playing for six years. That song is his own arrangement.

Listen to his solo, he is the real deal.

I don't think anyone here is doubting you, Rick! Thanks for the video. Pretty, pretty, pretty remarkable.

Thanks for sharing Rick, very impressive.

That's funny. When I was 15, in 1969, my band White Noise won the local battle of the bands playing . . . Magic Carpet Ride. Me flailing away on barre chords and my younger brother laying it on thick on his Farfisa. "Why don't you come with me, little girl, on a magic carpet ride . . . ."

Somewhat applicable to this kid.

Wow, never heard of this dude before. I was really impressed before I even found out he was 17. Then I was just frightened.
-
Also, I'm a huge fan of Lage Lund and own a lot of recordings he's on. This guy's got Lage written all over his playing, but there's definitely more to him than that. Can't wait to see what it becomes - he's already a monster
