Yikes! He's certainly got that Lage Lund thing going on. Including the frequent hundred-yard stare. This kid's spooky good.

sounds great, hope he gets a scholarship to Berklee.

there are many young classical musicians who are very prodigious, so it shouldn't surprise me that there are likewise some young jazz prodigies, but it always does. i know it sounds corny, but something about jazz seems to require an old soul.

If he can deal with the industry he will have a long wonderful career ahead of him. Definitely someone to keep an eye out for.

Whoa, I'm in the "this kid is spooky good" camp. Amazing talent.

As many of us spend a lifetime leaning and advancing our abilities. There are prodigies with unexplainable inherent abilities that seem to transcend reason. Players such as this that seem to have the soul of old masters in his DNA and an affinity for Jazz. I say sit back and enjoy what transpires.

See I reckon there aren't any inherent abilities (except for good ears). Most of the great players started young so when they were in their 20's they had already been playing for a long time.

He has been playing for six years. That song is his own arrangement.

They are exceptions in how they can discover a path and dedicate themselves as such a young age. Some to a instrument and others to all aspects of music. It's that dedication and ability of youth to soak in some much information that creates them. Some will eventually burn themselves out and change paths all depends on the if given a chance to still be a kid when they want to.

No worries. I appreciate the exposure to this young pup (as much as I'd love to hate him, given I've got 44 years on him and it sounds as if he's got 44 years on me).

His first album at 15 . . . I was attempting to master Steppenwolf's Magic Carpet Ride at 15. I think I might have a few guitars for sale.

Thanks for sharing Rick, very impressive.

That's funny. When I was 15, in 1969, my band White Noise won the local battle of the bands playing . . . Magic Carpet Ride. Me flailing away on barre chords and my younger brother laying it on thick on his Farfisa. "Why don't you come with me, little girl, on a magic carpet ride . . . ."

    But we digress.

    From Good Will Hunting

“Most days I wish I never met you because then I could sleep at night and I wouldn’t have to walk around with the knowledge there was someone like you out there.”

    Somewhat applicable to this kid.

Wow, never heard of this dude before. I was really impressed before I even found out he was 17. Then I was just frightened.

Also, I'm a huge fan of Lage Lund and own a lot of recordings he's on. This guy's got Lage written all over his playing, but there's definitely more to him than that. Can't wait to see what it becomes - he's already a monster

There is an old saying that goes "Be yourself. Everyone else is taken." Oh well ...

    Thanks for starting the thread.
