I'd probably stand around and watch for a little while and then wander off. …

    Hi Rob ,
I guess they were giving away a Gibson with every JP CD sold !

I had the good fortune to meet Joe twice at my old Tutor's house
he was very friendly ,witty and a great musician , I had a lesson
with him. I would be as happy as a pig in ......... if I could play
    like him.
btw are you still liking the ES345 ? i have one also and it is
great. The new ones are far superior to the predecessors.

    regards

    Absolutely great!

Back then, the only thing I heard played in a music store was Stairway to Heaven. Too many of my contemporaries would have asked - who is that bald guy with the fat guitar? Boy were we missing out.

Here's Joe in his backyard with some friends

He's wearing that same shirt on the cover of some of his Mel Bay books! What an incredible player.

So its the shirt!!! I've tried different guitars, amps, picks, lessons, but I have never tried playing while wearing a shirt that looks like that, maybe there is hope for me yet.

I can't tell, but I'd bet dollars to donuts that there's a little alligator stitched on it.

I was hoping he'd play Smoke on the Water or Stairway to Heaven.

I hope took that guitar, because he had better tone with it in the shop than on the Virtuoso album !

I think part of George Benson's endorsement deal was all others must wear stripes.

Thanks for the memory! "Stairway to Heaven" in a music store. If you are a player of a certain age, you have to smile at that one. If you worked in a store in the 70s you heard two or three young men sawing away on guitars in stock on that tune. Then, some guy would come in and sit down and play "Night and Day."

Ha! As in Washington Music Center on Vier's Mill Road? I used to go in there all the time.

It was just the same this side of the pond, our shops had
    lists of 'em
    Smoke on the Water
    All Right Now
Whole Lotta Love ....... etc.,..... all banned.
had to feel sympathy for the Music Centre staff.
