do you guys really dig how niels plays with joe? i always thought they brought out the worst in each other--way too many notes. i find joe always interesting from a pure "how'd he pull that off" perspective, but couple him with niels and it's like "arrrggghhh! give me some space!"

when i hear niels play with dexter gordon or even some of those late 70's recordings with chet baker and doug raney, i dig how good he is, but albums like "chops" just seem like that--a showcase of "chops" with no soul. JMHO, YMMV.

My vote would have to go to Ed Bickert and Don Thompson. Garden Party ---- sooooooo tasty!

2 guitar: Pat Metheny/Scofield "I Can See Your House...", Jim Hall/Pat Metheny, Chet Atkins/Lenny Breau "Best of", and I used to have one of Joe Pass and Herb Ellis on tape but I havenìt been able to find it...Emily Remler/Larry Coryell.

Hmm...I don't think I have any guitar/bass duets. I'll have to look into to some of these.

The Emily Remler/Larry Coryell is a smoker. I had it on cassette. Can't find it on CD.

Another Guitar Guitar type thing is 6 x 6 by Royce Cambell. Lot's of good playing on this one , especially by Larry C.

Jimmy & Doug Raney made a few duo recordings that are simply supurb!

    Nardis
    Stolent Moments
    Duets

These three are all from Steeplechase and are occasionally available on Amazon & eBay. All 3 are great examples of jazz guitar duets.

Charlie Haden/Christian Escoudé, the album is Gitane from 1979 ... very convincing rendition of John Lewis' Django ...

Oh, I almost forgot one of my favorites of all: Pat Metheny/Charlie Haden "Beyond the Missouri Sky". Listen to that one and then let me know if you think Pat Metheny is just "too many notes".

do people say that about pat? they must not have listened to him! i think he shows more restraint than just about any modern jazz guitarist, save for jacob young or bill frisell...

I see this all the time in the comments on his Youtube videos where he is playing standard tunes like ATTYA. (I don't know why I bother reading that junk in the first place, but I'm always curious).

Here are some obscure or not mentioned:
I could always cut one up for you if you really need it LOL.
Bucky Pizzarrelli and Slam Stewart put out a nice duet album years ago.
    Ron Carter and Jim Hall
Houston Person and Ron Carter (HP plays sax but is real smooth and clear, a nice solid CD to steal horn lines from)
Joe Beck and Red Mitchell lp
