I like Billie, whatever the tune. For standards, I love Linda Ronstadt. I listen to Louis and Ella a lot, both separately and together. Jack Teagarden was an under-rated jazz singer, but IMO one of the best.

kind of an odd pairing at the time...impulse record label bob thiele impulsive idea driven..to make trane more radio friendly...soften...yet nevertheless inspired...the two, not always 100% in simpatico...but their individual mastery shines thru, and transcends...what's now considered a classic album!!

That is my idea of a perfect recording. Love Hartman's voice. And Coltrane's "voice" provides a great contrast. It all works so well together. A desert-island choice for me.

talk about carrying a lyric!!!...chet, despite his obvious vocal limitations, delivers the true essence of the tune...lyrically & melodically...and he did it consistently...& on trumpet and flugel too!!...one of the greatest!
