Who are the most recognizable guitar players in jazz right now? Where when you hear them play you know it's them for sure. Current players only. First album 2000 and up? Scofield is one who is "current" but he has been releasing albums for decades.

Don't forget Adam Rogers and Jesse Van Ruller.

Michael Brecker is not with us anymore and was not a guitar player, but still casts a long shadow.

OP asked for "Current players only. First album 2000 and up?", so why don't you suggest Wes ?

In this case, I suggest Marc Ribot, just for fun !

I think Adam, Kurt, Wayne, Jesse, Pat, John Pizzarelli and Bernstein all predate the 2000 criteria the OP specified. I hope that's why Ben didn't make the list, he's kinda good for a Brooklyn guitarist.

David, no offense intented, my comment was not directed at you or your post, but some just a little earlier.
But never mind, I'm just in a strange mood today, it'll be better tomorrow...

Ha ha, 339, that wasn't objecting to your post, I just thought it was funny how a thread morphs from a pretty specific question to everybody's version of that question. That was all. I guess this is a "Who's your favourite current guitarist?" thread now. Cool. I guess.

Krantz's "Signals" was released in 1990.

For most individual voice and style post 2000 I'd vote for Bryan Baker. "Aphotic" was definitely not your typical jazz debut. Chris Crocco has a very distinct thing going on as well.

(Scofield and Frisell are two of my favorite players as far as carving out very identifiable voices on the instrument but I'm not allowed to nominate them )

Crocco, Felder, Baker, Krantz, Tim Miller... I can tell within two notes.

I feel like Lage Lund, Kreisberg, Hekselman, Moreno can all sound very similar for some time. I often don't know who's who. Saying that, they all sound fantastic and I love what they're doing.

The second four have more similarities in tone, but I find their playing to be quite different...

There needs to be a clearer criteria. I never heard of Rosenwinkle or Krantz either before 2000. I don't think. But obviously they were playing and maybe recording somewhere as almost anyone known today would have been, unless you insist they err in middle school.

For me a lot if the guys mentioned are GREAT players but I don't think their SOUND is immediately identifiable. Kurt has a very identifiable. SOUND. As does Krantz. Hekdelman. Lund - us his SOUND immediately identifiable? Maybe I'm not as familiar. I have a couple if his CDs. I love.

Funny, I have the same opinion with mr.b., the second 4 are totally different, even their tones are different, Lund is more dark and acoustic, Kreisberg has more technique, Hekselman has a longer sound and Moreno a more bright and clean sound, all these things translate to what they play that is totally different.
