Most certainly is! I also think he's a master in band formats too!

One of my favorite recordings of all times is Quadrant with Pass, Milt Jackson, Ray Brown, and Mickey Roker. Sooooo good.

I have that album and agree! They also did a trio one without the drums that is good (I forget the name though).

The duo album he did with Niels Henning Orsted Pederson(Chops) is one of the best jazz recordings ever in my opinion. It is always in my car.

Can anyone name some albums where Joe is playing guitar solos , as opposed to solo guitar ? I've heard some ripping guitar solos with a band on KJZZ radio , and the dj mentioned Joe Pass, but i never catch what the albums are . Thank You !

Oscar Peterson And Joe Pass at LaSalle Pleyel

Check out "The Complete Pacific Joe Pass Quartet Sessions"
compilation 5 disc set. On Mosaic IIRC.
Comes with a well written booklet on the circumstances of the sessions
and early Pass history.
Practically all blowing sessions.....On high rotate at my place!
...Albums covered include Les McCann - On Time.
Joe Pass -Catch Me
Joe Pass - For Django [includes some alt takes & previously unreleased tunes]
I love early Pass combo stuff where he's mainly playing single line.

My favorite playing of Joe Pass is his group playing, not his solo recordings. Here's some of my favorite albums:

Kris.Check out" Joe pass in Hamburg".He is playing in a big band format and his soloing is out of this world - you should get a lot of mileage out of this. I think this was his last with them.Cheers!

For those who study Joe Pass and dont want hours of transcribing I recommend "The Best of Joe Pass" by Wolf Marshall published by Hal Leonard(CD) included. This will give you enough to work on for months/years.

What tunes are there?
