I do think PG reached a new level of technique, and it sounds epic too it's not just technique. So you could send him back to Tal and he'd probably be amazed. But it's not like PG introduced any new conception about the music. And then I can't think of any other example than him. We could send Petey Bernstein back to Jim Hall etc and they'd be like minded.

Pete studied with Jim so that’s probably true.

Saturdays they play vintage transcriptions or radio dramas, which is about the only time I purposely tune in anymore.

I just don't care about new vocalists and their skim milk take on a Billie Holiday tune.
I feel that we have plenty of ways to listen to the same chestnuts from the past 100 years, so I looked for WDBC's live stream and the last five tunes played were four by Louis Armstrong and one by Jimmy Smith. The latest selections don't seem to be showing up in the playlist, which are from a Zydeco a capella group. The show is called "American Routes."

Anyhoo, thanks for mentioning WDCB. I don't want to hear any lite versions of Lady Day but will check in from time to time in hopes of hearing some newer stuff.

I clearly forgot my timeline. I forgot I saw Jimbo in the mid 00s with Dave Holland.

I’m glad to be wrong here. Maybe I’m tuning in to the same program without realizing it. Not exactly keeping track of when I happen to tune in.
