Very sad news, great guitar player and one of the nicest cats you could ever meet.Strangely, just yesterday i was saying to a friend that he and Kenny Burrell were the last of an era.RIP Joe.
-
Like probably many people my age, Joe was the first person I heard playing jazz guitar. He made it look so fun.
Rest in Peace.
-
He's joining Johnny C. in heaven.
RIP.

I grew up in Pittsburgh PA from age 0 - 10, and I have this vague-but-visceral recollection of meeting Joe Negri at some point during those early childhood years, but I can't recall what the circumstances might have been. At the time I was well aware of Joe strumming his guitar on the Mr. Rogers TV show, but it wasn't until many years later that I realized what a skilled jazz player he was.
RIP, Pittsburgh icon.

I wish I could find his book, "A Common Sense Approach to Improvisation for Guitar" as it seems to be pretty interesting, but it is nowhere to be found, in any form whatsoever !
RIP

I have it, signed by Joe.

I love the pleasure reflected in his face as he plays these beautiful songs. Since he was in pittsburgh, Is the Benedetto that he's playing one Bob made for him in Stroudsburg perchance?
-
One of these days I’ll scan it to pdf for you.

The Bravo, Andy, and Golden Eagle are all with his children.

The local PBS affiliate just released a very nice 25 minute documentary about him. Lots of footage of him from the '60s playing his D'Angelico.

Besides the great music, there’s a lot of info in this one. I watched it yesterday and was fascinated with his path as a guitarist. I didn’t know anything about his early years, and the entire story is pretty amazing. He also had a wonderful sense of humor.
