Thanks, Mark. I’ll have a listen later.

Funny I also found this yesterday, looks like youtube algorithm recommending this now to the right people

What I found interesting was to hear more about his background and that he started with classical music.
I just wish the interviewer asked more questions about how he learned to play jazz.
There are also other interviews on the channel with Joe Pass, Kenny Burrell, Tel Farlow. I also liked the barney kessel one.
Apparently barney was not a fan of jazz education, relying too much on scales.

All those interviews are worth the time. I wish we had more.

I'd come across Charlie Alexander's name many times, but never heard him talk. It turns out he's from Edinburgh: Charles Alexander | RHACC | Richmond | London UK
Great to hear Herb mention the difficulty of playing Oscar Peterson's scores, ghosting notes, his admiration for Joe Pass, and giving help to a young Emily Remler.
I'll get to the Barney interview later.

It was interesting to Herb talk about the difficulties of playing fast with Oscar. I wish he had explained HOW he learned to play fast, but it wasn't that sort of an interview.

Cheers Rob! Indeed, Charles does hail from Edinburgh, but made his career in London where he was possibly the busiest jazz man in town for many years - now taking things a bit more slowly. He's thrilled that these materials are reaching an appreciative audience today. Do check out his Six Silver Strings weekly radio program series from 1988 on our channel, if you haven't already - plenty of jazz guitar, and there'll be a Martin Taylor guest session/interview in an upcoming episode ?
