Not every guitar player could follow Brecker.
Ulf is one:

Nicely constructed solo indeed! Great band.

Well Oscar Peterson did have a good track record of picking guitarists

Beato’s interview with Ulf is finally online.
The man is a total virtuoso, seems married to his guitar, has encyclopaedic knowledge of jazz, is a walking juke box and will shine in any musical setting you’d care to drop him in. The speed and complexity of his playing are way over my head though. I can’t make sense of it. Several times during the interview he plays something to illustrate a certain influence, style or approach and seems to consider it self-explanatory to mere mortals like me. It’s like being in a room with Einstein and him assuming I’m an equal. Ulf’s bar is so high I can’t even see it.

He did a short UK tour with Martin Taylor a few years ago, I saw them twice, they each played a couple of tunes solo.
MT, who I think has a tendency to play a bit 'safe' got to stretch out a little...good gigs.

I ask myself, Did Oscar Peterson really need a Guitarist?
To me, this album is Oscar Peterson at his best.

He is one reason I will not depart with my dear old 1980 Aria Pro ii Les Paul copy. They really are fantastic guitars and do indeed sound very 'jazzy'.
