Was watching an old episode of Peter Gunn last night - episode entitled "Lynn's Blues" and it was in a different nightclub than Mother's with different backup band and there was a young Bob Bain playing guitar (Epiphone cutaway) but he didn't play anything you could hear. Usually, the guitarist in the group at Mother's backing Edie Hart (Lola Albright) was Tommy Tedesco. The first album I ever bought back in about 1960 was "The Music From Peter Gunn" - always loved that stuff - Bain had some good solos on a few tracks (played a Tele, I think).

The guitarist in that episode is actually Billy Bean. Some of the only video footage of him!

Sure. It's footage with Barry Harris and Butch Warren, from the beginning of a documentary that came out in '62. Only twenty seconds (0:20-0:40), but it's pretty cool! Dig the L7 with the CC pickup. I thought it had been shared here before, but who knows? As always, wish there was more...

I love catching glimpses of jazz guitarists in TV and film. Thanks!

Saw John Pisano in a wedding band in some 1980s movie but IIRC his playing wasn’t audible.

I think they got that one wrong.
I suppose there's a chance it might not be Bean but it's probably not Bain unless he dyed his hair red.

Looks like Billy Bean to me, but I'm no expert.

I think I can tell if someone has lighter than brown hair regardless.

    Bob Bain on Peter Gunn-bean-bain-jpg

It's Bean. I grabbed a couple of pics from the web (photo credits to original photographers). Bain on the left with a Telecaster. Bean on the right with a Gretsch Synchromatic.

That settles it, Bean would not have been caught dead wearing a telecaster - or a shirt with horizontal stripes.

I stand corrected - IMDb mislead me - I looked up the episode and it said Bob Bain - probably because of his connection to Mancini, I guess. I asked AI if Bean appeared on Peter Gunn and it came back the with episode and description of the band - shoulda checked a little closer.
