With a nod to Tiny Moore, Jethro Burns, etc. Eva Skow is my favorite jazz mandolin player. I love the musicality and feeling of ebb and flow in her playing and relaxation at faster tempos. She is truly playing to express. I can see why it works for a gigging musician, but that Godin Mando really doesn't do her justice.

She's from Fresno, I heard her a few times when I lived there. Incredible player. IIRC she was doing some stuff with Anthony Wilson?

I thought the Godin sounded good. If they made a 10-string I'd own one.
But jazz mandolin is primarily acoustic-based, and mostly swing. I am trying to take it into electric jazz.

5-string electrics aren't uncommon. Don Stiernberg plays one occasionally, as does Paul Glasse.

Yes, and they sound toylike to me. Half the string length of a guitar, needs doubled strings for richer tone.
After spending time getting comfortable on my electric 10-string I converted a 5-string I had previously acquired to 10 strings.

Outstanding.

I think that Godin sounds good and Eva plays great. For those into jazz mandolin someone I recently discovered is Issac Eicher. He has some course on DC Music School too.
