Excellent. Lovely relaxed interview, a lot due to the interviewer. Non-intrusive, gentle Scottish lilt, and very knowledgeable. Makes all the difference.

Joe called 13's "medium gauge" strings?

I was at a couple of the workshops he mentioned where they let in clueless guitarists, but he politely ignored their preschool questions whenever possible so it worked it. A really pleasant guy to be around, and quite modest, which comes through in this interview.
But "too lazy to practice" sounds kind of silly when he says it.

Charles tells me that, when the interview was finished, he noticed in the room on the shelf a box of Scottish oatcakes (Charles swears by them), so he asked Joe about them. Joe said he had to eat them because he was diabetic.

Didn't know that, his workshops that I attended were about 10 years before this interview, saw no sign of any health issues at that time, but he left us way too soon.
