Marvelous.... 11 years ago, when Gary was just a 70 y/o kid.
I believe this was Julian's first album with Gary, back in 2003:
Generations - Gary Burton | Album | AllMusic
(Julian would have been not quite 17 years old then!)
Followed a year later by: Next Generation - Gary Burton | Album | AllMusic
Not the "next generation" though, Gary could be these young mens grandfather!

Burton has been a proving ground for a number of gifted guitarists and others.
Along with Julian.. very young Pat Metheny..Mick Goodrick..Larry Coryell..and Steve Swallow
He has some educational vids..a master musician and educator that helped launch some of the best guitarists

I borrowed this CD from my local public library, it was released at about the same time as that Tiny Desk concert.

Burton got an early start himself. IIRC, he was about 17 when he played on Jazz Winds From A New Direction with Hank Garland.

From a review of the New Gary Burton Quartet
The young, supremely gifted Lage (who debuted with Burton at the age of 12, adding to the vibraphonist's own legacy of showcasing brilliant guitarists in their youth -- both Pat Metheny and Larry Coryell began their careers with him) contributes three tunes. They include the strident post-bop blues of "The Lookout," and the rock-tinged, melodically challenging "Sunday's Uncle," which features lively, intensive exchanges between Lage and Burton.
