Agree with loads of those, but for something different....bought it at the time thinking an Ornette guitarist would be interesting but wasn't prepared for what it actually was...great in an unexpected way.

I thought that had already been mentioned but it was Bernstein’s Monk album. Those three Bobby Broom records are really fine.

Chris Wabich’s ‘Secret Tea’ along with Tom Warrington’s ‘Back Nine’ and ‘Corduroy Road’ are in the same format and feature stellar guitar from Larry Koonse.

[QUOTE=mr. beaumont;1375070]I feel like if you're a jazz guitar player and the Jim Hall Live record isn't one of your favorite records, its like having an iron deficiency or something[/QUOTE

I’m sure you’ve checked out the Artistshare 3-CD set with a bunch of tunes from the same residency that didn’t make the original cut. I was listening to it again today on the train to work and marvelling at Jim’s deep, exploratory yet playful approach in the opening track, ‘How Deep Is The Ocean’.

Glad to see The Poll Winners mentioned. That was the second jazz guitar album I listened to from Dad’s collection when I started playing 40 years ago (the first was Wes on “A Day In The Life”).

I come back to listening to trios whenever I need to work on my fundamentals. I was lucky enough to catch Thumbscrew at The Jazz Gallery last month:

John Scofield's recent touring group is a trio. From the album "Uncle John's Band".

Lots of fantastic (and new to me) suggestions already- thanks!

More votes for Vic Juris and one for John Hart, both of whom have several great trio albums!

Romain Pilon has a couple of trio albums under his own name ('NY3' and 'Falling Grace') and with bassist Jeff Denson as leader ('Between Two Worlds' and 'Finding Light').
