Apparently the file cabinets of my brain are overfilled...
I'm trying to remember the name of a player...he plays free/avant garde jazz, almost always on an unamplified D'Angelico.

Nope, got it. James Emery.
-
In the early String Trio of New York days he played a flat top acoustic, possibly a Martin.

I had not heard of him before. Interesting stuff; "avant-garde" often sounds disconnected from "the tradition" or much of any tradition. Listening to a number of his videos on YouTube today, there is a connection to the tradition, even though in some ways he's operating parallel to it. I like it, which I can't always say about avant-garde kind of music.

You reminded me that I have this CD, haven't listened to it in ages:

This album was my introduction to him...glad I remembered it today. Great stuff.

Played with Billy Bang on violin. Great player. Always acoustic. On a Jimmy D'Aquisto that epitomizes acoustic archtop guitar to my ear.
Has anyone tried the JHS Clover preamp pedal?
