Yeah baby! I’ve loved them since the first time I heard them. The Last Record Album is a great starter for those who want more. It’s been on my “desert island” list since 1975 and I still listen to it a lot. Lowell George was an elegant composer, a poetic lyricist and an amazing player. And the rest of the band more than held their own with him on all counts.

George’s death was a tragedy, but the band kept going in the same vein. They’ve made a lot of great music since then, but George was the spark and to some extent they’ve been blowing on the embers ever since. Nevertheless, there’s still enough heat to keep me warm.

I have to say Waiting for Columbus is one of the best concert records ever made, and the best Feat recording ever. I do believe there were some studio overdubs, and maybe some other editing, but still.

I have listened to this record probably once a month for 40 years. In fact, might give it a listen today. The sun is shining, and it's a good day for Lowell and co.

A good buddy of mine in Madison put on concerts locally for awhile and became very good friends with the surviving Feat members (after Lowell's passing), to the point he named his son Lowell. His other son Hunter (named after Hunter S. Thompson) has been a touring guitarist with several up and coming acts.

But yeah Little Feat--arguably one of the best RNR acts of all time.

This may not be the most polished version of Dixie Chicken, but a personal favorite because of Emmylou and Bonnie. (Bonnie Raitt and Bonnie Bramlett sang backup on the original studio version.) Bonnie in particular got so much of her slide guitar sound from Lowell.

Here is the whole episode in better quality, HD:

The Midnight Special youtube channel started posting cleaned-up video of their old broadcasts around the 50th anniversary of the debut of the show. Old treasures appear constantly, it's a very fun thing.

Yeah, there's a lot of good footage of Feat (Featage?) on youtube. Definitely one of my all time favorite bands. If I could only have one it would probably be Waiting for Columbus because it kind of recapitulates the entire Lowell George era. Sailin' Shoes and Dixie Chicken are my favorites, though. Lowell's solo album (Thanks, I'll Eat it Here) is great. There's also great tribute album called Rock and Roll Doctor. His daughter Inara George is also very cool.

This is a too cool intro by Linda Ronstadt, who then performs an LG song, in case anyone wanted a listen.....

So nice to see a thread about Feat. At their peak, they were the best band in the world. I will die on this hill.

I never got to see them live, alas. I wouldn't challenge you on that particular hill, but I would say that among bands I've seen in that approximate genre (eclectic, rootsy, jammy, funky, rock) I don't think either Los Lobos or the Neville Brothers can beat.

My favourite band, also - out of many favourites, of course. There was always something about Lowell's singing and playing and writing that just connected with me. I recall buying the famous bootlegs on cassette tape back in the day. I think these days you can probably get them on Amazon. On of the things I used to do with all my favourite artists was to collect cuttings from the music papers and Sunday supplements and so on and just slip them inside the LP covers. It's great to look back on these cuttings now, some forty-plus years later.
