Playing lots of new tunes doesn't help your playing, it just helps your skills of using what you already have. Sometimes it just reinforces lousy skills, help playing bad ideas better. LOL

So you end up with either.... working on understanding how to play jazz tunes or working on how to get your technical skills together.

Just from checking in once in a while.... I would suggest, working on tunes. Maybe put time or vids on how to Comp through tunes. There are many standard approaches with different harmonic references for how to play tunes.... and they are different. Which as you learn how to actually play in a jazz style, you'll see and be able to hear the differences.

Sometimes you only hear what your able to. So maybe playing a tune in different styles will help one learn to understand the possibilities of how to approach playing tunes through the trial and error process, as compared to getting technical through use of analysis and theory.

Which would end up being... putting more time on single tunes etc... Winters coming I'll have more time, I'll try and help, and I've hosted real jazz jams back when they were a thing. In the end... your playing is what it is to all ears.

What is the matter with you people?

The VJ thing was canned because it was dead on its feet. It was finished. Now you sit around making comments... about what? That real jams are more fun than internet ones? Of course they are. So what?

There is absolutely NOTHING to stop ANYONE here from starting a new thread. All you need is a song title and post a thread. That would take about a minute of your time.

But you all want someone else to do it. Presumably because no one here has any initiative at all. And the one person who did his best to disrupt, divide and criticise the VJ threads (even when Jeff was doing it) is sounding off most of all.

Sad. Pathetic. If you want to do it, START it. You don't need permission from teacher, just get on with it.

I thought it was a nice thing. I stopped doing it because I don’t have much playing time at the weekends and by the time I was ready to post something, people had moved on. But I always liked it as an idea. Perhaps it’s more of a lockdown vibe.

Well, there were a lot of tunes with the same playing and ideas.
Not a lot of participants, often or always the same ones, so everything sounded the same.

Wait, it's canned? I don't think that's completely necessary just because there was low participation. It always seemed to be a viable thread. I always liked you as a host, ragman. I like your civility and your enthusiasm for the music. However, if you're set on moving on, ok I guess. I don't always participate because I'm busy and I don't always like mod tunes. However, I do really like some of the tunes and learn new tunes that I wouldn't have otherwise. Driftin and Soultrane were favorites. Yes, jamming in real life is one of the ways to develop as a player. But so is recording. I've been thinking about starting a BH jam thread.

    But sorry.
I was very serious yesterday when I was playing the show and the audience was full.

Canned it is, I'm afraid, Jimmy. It had lost its motivation and a review of the comments here will clarify that. Thanks for your comments but it's time to move on. I'm sure something new will appear at the right time, it usually does :-)

This is very interesting ... it's been a long time since no one posted 'James' here and the number of VJ viewers is growing.
What can you think about this phenomenon?

Ok, enough of this BS. I started a thread for Sonnymoon for Two. Hopefully some people will take a crack at that rather than argue over here.

Rags/Jeff: how does one make something into a “sticky” thread?
