    I see your point about "only two notes different", but as an exercise, find what other common scales are only one or two note different from:

    * the major scale
    * the jazz minor scale
    * the diminished scale (you can replace two notes with one, here)

    For example, the C major scale is only one note away from the G major and the F major scale and
    only two notes away from the D major and Bb major scales.

    Replace the C with a C# and you've got the C# altered (D jazz minor) scale.

    Replace the E with an Eb and you've got the C jazz minor scale.

    Replace the A with an Ab and you've got the C harmonic major scale.

    So I think two notes away can be quite a distance!

    Essentilly, yes. But I never use it in a scaler fashion. I always use aug arps and consecutive thirds from it. It's considered "modern" on guitar from what I hear, but I first heard Red Garland and Monk use the idea. Then I started messing around heavily with changing/interchanging the ii with the V in the "ii" chord in the measure, to create tension-realease-tension. Like: VI7alt/bIII9-ii-V instead of ii-V

    very drole BDLH... i would not for instance play Bb major over a C maj7 "only two notes different" however as JT says i also wouldn't play it in a scalic fashion. more over i kind loop around the b9 it creates or think of it as a triad pair and kind of move shapes around.
    if you weren't being sarcstic forgive me, the absense of comic book guy must indicate a leaf newly over turned

    Not that serious. Maybe we could ring the changes over "What a difference a day makes!"

    That sure is a cool tune. I'm fingering those min∆7's like an F+(middle four strings at 6 position), or maybe just the bottom 3 strings,,you get the 5th, ∆7th, -3rd, and 5, or just the 1st 3 if you play a 3 note chord bottom up absent the 5th on top.

    Jazzyteach65, thank you so much for posting the Louie Stewart video. I never heard of him before I checked this thread and I absolutely love his playing on this video.

    Now, I am going to find some Louie Stewart albums!
