My general rule is if I have more than one student working on something at a given time, I make a pdf …

… here’s something I made to get a couple students started with cross rhythms.

Bird — and, therefore, everyone else pretty much — uses tons of these sorts of cross rhythms, but he often implies them by accenting his regular eighth note lines. That can be a pretty tall order, technically. So this is a way to start getting rhythmic tension going with much simpler melodies.

I was a little thrown, because the very first piece of notation is marked as 4/4, but you're actually showing 2-beat rhythmic ideas. Maybe remove the 4/4, but then add it to the examples where you show those ideas used as cross rhythms?

Whoops. Yep. First student I sent this to said the same thing but I still had the old version in google drive.

The most recent one is up now.

Still a draft though, so please let me know if there's anything else that would be helpful.

Lots of 3 over 4 and stuff like this in funk bass. Especially when they get to slapping and popping.

Well, the old guys at least... Mononeon and Joe Dart are a whole different level.
