Following some discussions about freeform improvisation, I’m certain it is fully realizable as a solo performer. Not to say anything to take away from group playing-interaction, but solo doesn’t offer any less to interact with given the worlds that exist within each of us. We only just need go there

Someone said that the guitar is an orchestra.
....but... I have doubts when listening to my favorite Penderecki.

Mary Halvorsan could do that, but I’d rather go to the dentist.

I’m waiting to be told what I’m playing isn’t jazz. My dentist’s office plays jazz

    Mark, take care of yourself.
Nowadays, dentists don't bother patients so much, I hope.

Studies have shown that people who have been sedated have an above average appreciation of jazz.

So, if I can sedate listeners with my playing I can increase the appreciation at the same time? Very interesting notion. Very interesting indeed!

It's interesting that medical doctors are often interested in good jazz.
The icon of Polish jazz, Krzysztof Komeda, was a doctor by profession.

Yes, Komeda was an ear doctor (IIRC). I discovered him in Polanski's film "A knife in the water" as the composer of the soundtrack.

I also love Penderecki... in particular: The String Trio and the Clarinet Quartet.

thanks for the link to the Necks. I never heard of them My friends and I gather from time to time and approach playing exactly the same way they do.

I found out about the Necks on a Marxist/Critical Theory podcast I used to use as a sleep aid. I really like what they do.

So then, did they provide neck pillows at their concerts? And does this support the hypothesis that sedated people have a greater appreciation for jazz?
