I vote for an entire satire font. Switch to the font for satire and back again for normal.

I had the following correspondence with Alfred Music's customer service. It looks as if we can find a copy, we can petition them to make copies. I'm not sure if they will allow it, but it's worth a shot.
djangoles, did you ever find out if you have the tape?
Greetings,
There are several people on the Jazz Guitar Forums at https://www.jazzguitar.be/forum who are interested in obtaining copies of the video by Clint Strong, "Mastering Jazz Licks". Unfortunately, we cannot seem to find a dealer or publisher anywhere that has copes for sale (it is out of print from what we can tell). We would like to know if it is possible to still obtain copies of this video.
Regards,
xxxxxxxx

[email protected]Thank you for your reply. Since the title is out of print, would it be possible to get the rights to copy it for individual use, should I find someone who has an old copy of the VHS?

Dependig on the price, you can count me in!
FYI: Stangly enough, I have a digital copy. I have digitalised my own dvd's and videos to some extent, and found also Clint Strong in the archive. I can't find the original, but it is possible that one of my friend have the VHS and that I have digitalised it for him. I do not like to share copyrighted material (sorry, I like doing things legal), but if we can find a way to do it leagally, I do have a digital copy if djangoles can't find his VHS. I'm sure djangoles, with background, will make a digital versjon with a quality well exceeding my bad attempt in doing a decent jobb.

I'll know on Saturday..... have to look in my parents basement. hahaha!!!! Almost 40 years old and still have some goodies stashed there!!

No dice.....It was not where I thought it would be.

I went to the website and I think the more appropriate thing would be for whoever has the tape (or copy thereof) to petition. The form you have to fill out asks how many copies you're going to make - I can't make any, since I'm not in possession of the tape.
Gersdal - would you be willing to fill out the form?
-
Uh! Until I found the source of my video, I'm a bit reluctant...

Thats what I consider real improvisation. Doesn't happen as often as I would like, but if I could capture that feeling and sell it..I'd be the richest cat in the world. Come to think of it..when that stuff is happening, I AM the "richest cat in the world".
BTW I'm not the best player around, and I am well aware of that fact.
But..I've been playing since the early 60's, and I do have my moments.

I guess we're all SOL then. Alfred is not going to reissue it and nobody here has a copy we can petition with.
-
Hey fellas. Here's the email response I got from Clint
Hey Derek,
Thanks for writing.Yes I have some available. Call me at my cell,or my home, and we can talk about it! No Dallas gigs booked right now,but you
are welcome to come by the house when you're in town.
I look forward to hearing from you, thanks again Derek.
Clint Strong
Yes, he actually gave me his cell and home numbers. What a nice guy. I will follow up with him and let you guys know the outcome.Last edited by derek; 06-22-2010 at 10:46 AM.

Well, hey! Count me in, please. I would definitely like a copy.
-
So what happened in the end? Isn't there anyway we can access these vids and/or handbook? I really like Clint's playing! What's he been doing these past years?
-
anyone?

bumping in the vague hope of an update.....
-
Well, this bump has got me to read this old thread, which compels me to write a response regarding the "lick vs motif" side-subject....
We all know what licks are, and how they "lego" together. Nothing wrong with 'em but of course if all you do it string licks together, it's like listening to someone talking like: "I went to the store today don't you just love ice cream what time is the show?" - each lick has nothing to do with the last thing you played.
In improv, getting deep into the tune requires motivic development. An adept improvisor is able to, some times for great lengths of time, take a single motif, and move it through each change, then use it backwards (retrograde), invert it, morph it into something else. This creates a coherency, and each thing that's played is related to the last. It makes sense to the listener.
If you use the melody as a source for your motives, then what you play is going to be strongly related to that particular tune, and will ensure that each song's improv be unique.
-
...and thanks for turning me on to Tommy Morrell and Time-Warp Tophands!
-
But what about Bird? He played "licks", someone once worked out he had 242 of them. I have listened carefully to many outtakes where his solos are not just unique each time, but they are masterpieces.....

We can't all be Sonny Rollins, but with a ton of work we might get to be like Sonny Stitt, and for some of us, that'll do!
