Here's one for tunes that have the minor b6->5->1
In Cm this would be like Ab(13)/Gb | G+7/F | Cm7
E.g., Angel Eyes, Blue Bossa, Funny Valentine...
With chords like these...
x x 10 11 11 13
x x 9 10 11 11
x x 8 8 8 10
or these
x 9 10 10 9 x
x 8 9 8 8 x
8 x 8 8 x x
(The lick follows the chords closely)
for Ab(13)/Gb
eight eighth notes even through the measure
x x x x x 13
x x x x x 10
x x x x 11 x
x x x 11 x x
x x x x 9 x
x x x 10 x x
x x 10 x x x
x 9 x x x x
for G+7/F
nine notes even through the measure*
x 8 x x x x
x x 9 x x x
x x x 8 x x
x x x x 8 x
x x x x 11 x
x x x x 8 x
x x x x 9 x
x x x x x 11
x x x x x 7
for Cm7
x x x x x 10
x x x x x 8
blues/jazz...
*This is actually doable in a smooth way; if you have a 4/4 measure of 16th triplets that's 36 notes. If you tie these 16th triplets as groups of 4 to play notes, then nine notes fill the measure. Best way is feel coherence at the 16th triplet level.Last edited by pauln; 09-16-2024 at 06:47 PM.

Everytime I see the term I have to remember a bit of advice I once got (and still haven't been able to do much with):
I'm sure y'all aren'tI want you to think of them as building blocks, not licks. [...] Because if all you do is play licks, you're not playing, you're just lickin'
-
Is there a source artist or recording or is this your own? And is there a name for the enclosure in the first measure?

Might be good to include a sound clip with the licks for those of us away from the instrument.

Hence the title, The Notated Lick Compendium.
The other excellent Modular lick compendium thread had videos, but this new thread is for Notated Licks.
Edit: I've been collecting and notating licks over many, many years. I must have 100's and others must have 100's too.

OK TBH sometimes I looked at the others' hands, too, LOL. Next time I will write down the names of the tunes we play.
Anyway it was a good session -- Hot Club de Munich!
EDIT: I forgot Swing Gitan.
EDIT 2: Caravan. But I had it in my ear already though not yet worked on it.
EDIT 3: Now off to blues session for primal scream therapy.

Look at you, being accessible with tab. Is that autogenerated or did you input it?

= Guitar Pro 6, which someone shared online. It will export a score as an image file.

P.S. - When you input tablature in Guitar Pro, it will generate the corresponding notes on the staff. You often have to change the accidentals (C# or Db, etc.) but overall it's fairly easy to use.Last edited by Mick-7; 09-22-2024 at 01:39 PM.

Scale wise, D/F/Ab/B diminished or other scales such as C harmonic minor or Major, Ab melodic minor, et. al. depending on the alterations you want - #9th, b5th, b13th, etc.
