playing outside with rhythm - Diminished dominant chord voicings and metric modulation

I'm going to show you some really cool dominant pairs based on the diminished scale and as a bonus,I'll demonstrate playing them in metric modulation style using 1/4 triplets.

The way I derive the chords is to take a garden variety 13th chord (voiced b7 3 13 root) and I move it through the diminished scale harmonizing it stepwise. The scale and the chords are symetrical so each pair just moves up
a minor 3rd. In the first example, i play a 4 note voicing and move it across all string pairs which is challenging because of the tuning of the guitar but it's worth learning and integrating it into your playing.

I have other lessons on this concept using compound rhythms so make sure to check them out on my yt site...

For the metric modulation, i'm playing each chord twice. However, I'm playing them in 1/4 note triplets. Since we have 2 chords and 3 notes per tuplet, the feel is of a 2 over 3 metric modulation. It's very cool. I recommend counting the triplets while you are playing this to get the feel. If you have problems with the 1/4 note triplets, you can break them down into regular 8th note triplets where each 1/4 note of the 1/4 triplet is 2 tied notes from the regular triplets.

If you want to get deeper into these concepts, i have a patreon site and also give private lessons.
