Hi
I recently acquired a Gibson, ES-300 in beautiful Birdseye maple, anf unusually it appears to have an L5 styled neck with three section flamed Maple, as opposed to a single piece of mahogany… Do you think this may have been a special order?
It’s all original with the exception of replacement tuners, being a late 1940s guitar I would imagine the original buttons would’ve crumbled

That’s just beautiful. Can’t help you with the neck.
-
I'm reading that the change from maple to mahogany necks occurred post-war. What year is this beautiful ES-300? Also, it might be helpful to post some pictures of the back of the neck.
-
Here’s the back of the neck !
-
That's a replacement neck from the 60s or later. Gibson introduced the 5-piece neck circa 1962, and the ES-300 was discontinued in 1952.
-
What a splendid instrument! The 5-piece neck is brilliant. Wonder why it became necessary to replace the original.
-
I have read reports of other Gibson models with 5 piece necks appearing in the 40s perhaps special order? The flame looks consistent with the top and back also

Like yours, but different pickup and tuners
-
Also the one advertised looks like it has a spruce top instead of the maple on yours

Very nice! Congrats, HNGD
and play her in good health!

That's a wartime instrument, often made from whatever Gibson could get their hand's on. It's not uncommon to see features that would otherwise be anachronistic in the war-years.

Has anyone tried the JHS Clover preamp pedal?
