I have come to adopt similar approach.
I build, or pick one simple chord solos on one particular number, from a score, or other source, or made of bits i pick from what i heard.
Then as a warm-up exercise spend time playing it en boucle over and over, alternate the beat, rythm and then the fun part starts. As I keep at it over time, I find myself adding to it, incorporating new turnarounds, jumping keys and finding fall-backs to the original etc.. etc..
I find this method very rewarding in many aspects of my playing.

Phrase of the month Jan 2026.

Play the same Phrase everyday for a Month challenge.

I've been playing the same Phrase everyday for a month, but fitting the Phrase into improv solos over the songs I know.

Using this method the Phrase has stayed in my musical memory, but only after repeatedly playing the Phrase each day. (Obsessively)

My phrase for Jan 2026 is over a 'C Major V-I' and is shown below:

I transpose the Phrase to different keys and play the phrase during improvisations over the songs I know.

This method of remembering phrases is working very well for me, but we all learn in different ways.

I learned the value of this from my Zoom lessons with Robert Conti. He gave me a few lines (two measures each) and I've been playing them every day for a while now. (He added a few more afterward.)

Learn the lines, play them on different string sets, and once they are mastered, you can begin to learn how to connect them.
It sounds easy. (Conceptually, it IS easy.) But getting the lines down and making them flow as the tempo rises takes time.

I was watching the movie Bird this evening, which I downloaded from the movie site that DawgBone mentioned (thanks!), and I copied this lick that Bird played on Kansas City Blues in the film. (I reposted this, my first transcription was incorrect, Bird's rhythms are hard to notate!).

My phrase for Mar 2026 is a bit more complex, it's shown below:

Personally, I think playing the same phrase every day for a month would definitely be a challenge

My very simple phrase for June 2026 can be played using "String Skipping" and is shown below:

These chromatic lines with "String Skipping" ideas are what I've been working on in recent months.
