I have a ton of issues and was a subscriber for many years. It's probably been 5 or 6 years since I pulled any of them out until today. Wow - what a great magazine that was - the interviews, the chord melody arrangements, the advertisements...is there anything similar out there now? I had forgotten how truly incredible it was and how much I looked forward to each issue arriving in my mailbox.

That was a really great magazine for sure.I wish the owner would make the back issues in a pdf form available and sell it,i'm sure he would make some dollars from doing that.

Yeah. I just haven't found that to be the same. I loved the old print format. There was also a time when you could go on the website and hear recordings of some of the material in the magazine. Remember that? It was really great.

I have most of them and I too, found them a wealth of info and would never part with mine. I vaguely recall that there were some pdfs of some sort on their website about the time when they were winding down, but don't recall if those were entire issues or just assorted lessons. I suspect that at one time, it would have been possible to release most of them in pdf form, maybe that's still true if we knew who to contact.

Hi Y'all. Is it OK to respond to a thread this old? If not, my apologies to the moderator. I was a contributor to JJG for most of its existence.

I'm in the process of writing a book on harmony for jazz guitar. In fact, it is called, "Harmony For Jazz Guitar." I have reworked a few of the articles that I contributed to the magazine, but there is one that I no longer seem to have that I could use. I donated all of my issues to York University in Toronto and am currently on the road. The article was called "Two's Company: Diads' or something like that. If anyone has a scan of the article and wouldn't mind sharing it with me I'd greatly appreciate it. I can't remember which issue it was in. I think we can receive messages through this forum. I'm Roy Patterson.

Ed passed? Does someone have a link to an obituary? I wrote a few articles for his magazine. I offered to buy the magazine from him, but Ed declined telling me that he wanted to let the magazine simply end.

I have every issue and all the cd's that he produced.

I had heard that Ed's son began to digitally archive the articles, but my guess that it was too much work for no compensation.

False alarm! I found the article on diads in a hard drive that I had forgotten about, so no need for anyone to go to the trouble of scanning and sending to me, but I'm sure you would have, so thanks regardless.

I'd love to read your article on 'diads', or a summary, if you care to post it please. Maybe in the theory section? Thanks.

It was a publication of love and adoration, and LOTS of arrangements. Although I had a complete collection, I was travelling through the backwoods of CT and a fellow had a guitar he was selling. I stopped by and he had another COMPLETE collection and he said "You want to buy these at a really good price if you buy the guitar?" That's how I got a D'Angelico New Yorker for my student and a second complete archived collection for my library. Now if I could internalize everything in those pages!

Thanks for your interest Skyhomishone. I'm reworking and expanding few of the articles for the book, including this one. It is looking like it will have about 14 chapters, plus a fairly rigourous foundational section and a reference section on theory. I'm hoping for a first draft in about a month, and I'll post some excerpts after that.

It’s great to see people still passionate about physical guitar magazines. There’s something about flipping pages that digital just doesn’t replace. Just Jazz Guitar always had solid interviews and transcriptions. I learned a lot from reading about players’ thought processes. Even ads can be inspiring when they’re well-curated. Chasing down old issues felt like calling the amazon kindle direct publishing customer service phone number , oddly technical but worth it.
