I use an engineer's chair that I got in the 1980's when a company I worked for went out of business. It looks something like this photo but with a fuller back. I've tried to find something more comfortable. The metal bars on the bottom require putting on shoes as that is where you place your feet. I am also trying an office chair with a comfort cushion support for the back.

I thought it was odd that there are almost no pictures of this kind of chair on Google.

I bought one similar but a little more attractive from a local furniture store but it eventually wore out the hydraulics and I gave it away. Sadly, it seems to be no longer available. Any of the office style chairs that have a cupped area for your bottom end up hitting the sides of the guitar so I'm not a fan.

I got one of these about a month ago. It's very adjustable and I have the back support right around my kidneys for lower back comfort. The chair is not perfect but it's a huge improvment ofver the various things I've tried over the last few years.

That looks interesting. I can't find a price on the website. How much do they want for it?

If you lower that backrest so that it actually supports you in the lumbar region, is there enough clearance for your butt?

I had one of those. Killed my back after an hour

I saw a picture of someone playing guitar on this leaning back as if a couch had been photoshopped away, so yeah, I can see how such a chair could be a back killer. And hence my question above...

What I'd like is a kind of sissy-bar-like lumbar support for my piano bench.

I feel for you Jack. You are one of several people I know who have never really completely recovered from back surgery. It's so easy for me to take my health for granted. I hope you find something that really works for you.

That's how I have it set up but I've gotten really small in my old age.

And for whoever was asking about the price, I paid about $140 CDN for it but it had been discounted as part of a Black Friday sale.

Thanks, but I actually meant an add-on support for my existing bench
But I realise I had a morphed image in mind, where the actual support was mounted on a "recurving" rather than a straight structure. I think the luggage rack is to blame ... and I don't really need one of those

There are ways to attach such a device, of some method of construction, to an existing bench, but the results are likely to be somewhat less than ideal.

I just grabbed the Quik-lok dx-749 off the used market for a song..I'm grateful for this thread. It's given my back a solid hour with the guitar that I've been unable to manage over the last months.

Will check out this model, thanks. Hopefully maiden home customer service will help me to get a perfect chair that is both comfortable and good for my back. Sitting for long hours can be tough, so finding the right balance between style and ergonomics is really important. I've been looking into various options, but it's always great to have professional guidance to make sure I'm making the best choice. Investing in a high-quality chair can really make a difference in daily comfort and overall well-being. Fingers crossed I find the perfect one soon
