When I gigged in the ‘70s one of my favorite songs to play was from the Sound of Philadelphia was the “Love I Lost” by Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes.

I led a 10 piece Jazz/Rock big band in the 70's and we always closed our third set with "Wildflower." It was always one of our most popular tunes and with trumpet, flugelhorn, sax, trombone and, Hammond B3 for the harmonic complement, it was very powerful. I hired, R.H., who played with the Ohio Players ,for a short time, as our bassist/vocalist and whose interpretation was stellar and I've wondered, even today, why he didn't become a big star. I've never heard the first version and prefer it over the original since it has strong R@B/gospel elements in its structure and is the same music I played with small combos for years on Chicago's South and West sides. That’s kewl because it’s a rhythmically rich tune. That intro is off the charts and the tune takes off from there.
