    I read it nearly 40 years ago, when many of the names were new to me. I could do with reading it again. I vaguely remember some controversy about it, but can’t recall what it was. Another great book for info you won’t find elsewhere is All That Jazz by the English poet, Philip Larkin, who never approved of anything post swing, but really loved jazz of the 20s to 50s.

    Haha I kinda like strong, controversial takes on the music. Entertaining and potentially enlightening.

    It’s a classic book. I think he’s wrong about some stuff, but Ethan Iverson has covered it.
