I was looking at subscribing to YT downloads. Question: Are the vids actually downloaded to your hard drive or are they just bookmarks?

    Thanks,

    Doug

There's no reason to pay for that, you can download YT videos with many streaming video recorders, including browser extensions such as this one -- YouTube Downloader (UDL Helper) for Firefox (en-US)

Thanks, Mick, but it says "This add-on is not actively monitored for security by Mozilla. Make sure you trust it before installing."

Long time Firefox user here.I've used many extensions over the years that gave the same warning witthout any problems. If you are still uncertain, you can buy something like 4K downloader or Mediahuman YT downloader. They both give free trials.

Thanks, I found a Linux program that does several formats, and video and audio. Called:
    "Simple Screen Recorder"

Actually I use Internet Download Manager integrated into Firefox, works great but I have no idea what it costs, someone gave me a lifetime subscription to it.

I use this one to download videos too, but I have not tried it with YouTube videos: Video DownloadHelper

I believe they're only downloaded to your youtube account so you can play them offline. I don't think they go to your hard drive.

I tried to download some backing tracks before and I was looking in file explorer in downloads going 'where tf is my track?!' Not there haha.

This app works solidly. I have used it for several years.
You can download YouTube videos easily. As far as I can tell there are no crazy effects or security scams and it's free or by donation.
Occasionally it stops working for a day or two and then when you update it, it works fine. Youtube periodically changes their security scheme but the updates help the app keep pace.

    That correct for Premium.

I’d still recommend it btw, it makes using YT much more pleasant and plus the creators get a cut of the money. Including yours truly ;-)

every "creator" gets a breadcrumb even if i totally disagree with a viewpoint and only watched for information purposes? so the premium model basically makes sure you never leave your bubble?

Originally, the ability to download information was how the World-Wide-Web was used, that was before it got invaded and ruined by blatant commercialism (and stupid teenagers). I don't think this blatant exploitation is what Sir Tim Berners-Lee intended when he invented the World-Wide-Web in 1989, but what do I know.
