Sexual orientation is a myth. One's so-called orientation is what gender(s), one has sex with.
-
-
It's defined as the person's sexual behavior and their enduring attractions and underlying biology. But the person's behavior also adapts their attractions and underlying biology, so behavior can take precedent. But no it's not a myth.

-
I meant it is a myth in regard to being based on genetics. My stance is that it is behavioral, and the main behavioral influence is modeling. Thus, the basic reason most person only engaged in sex with the opposite gender was the modeling they were exposed to was being raised by a male and female parents. In the last 20 or so years, people under 40 saying they are "bi" has increased 2 to 3-fold (especially among women). That can't be explained due to genetics but can be based on modeling.
What is a myth is that each of us have some type of true self as it relates to sexual behavioral. (and thus when one changes their gender preference, they were living a lie and now they have found their true self).
My view is that all of this is great. People have more freedom and can have the type of sexual behavior they wish, at the moment, without shame.

Yes it is not purely predefined genetically. Otherwise exclusive homosexuality literally wouldn't exist. I'm pretty sure this isn't the leading theory anymore anyway.
However it isn't purely behavioral either, otherwise a bunch of people wouldn't go out and do (and choose to be) the most stigmatized thing in all of history. My stance is that it is behavioral, and the main behavioral influence is modeling.
But modeling and development I think is a chief component. Thus, the basic reason most person only engaged in sex with the opposite gender was the modeling they were exposed to was being raised by a male and female parents.
It can be explained by genetics. There could be a genetic propensity to bisexuality in humans, then people end up stratifying by their development, modeling, and choices. Also more people self identifying doesn't necessarily mean an increase, it just means polling is a faulty way to find the true demographics, since most people don't want to identify as something that's stigmatized. In the last 20 or so years, people under 40 saying they are "bi" has increased 2 to 3-fold. That can't be explained due to genetics but can be based on modeling.
Bisexuality isn't more common in women than in men, they're just more likely to self identify because of less stigma.(especially among women)
There's no orientation that is genetically set, but I still think one orientation or behavioral model could be most congruent with one's spirit. What is a myth is that each of us have some type of true self as it relates to sexual behavioral. (and thus when one changes their gender preference, they were living a lie and now they have found their true self).
Yeah, the range of orientations needs to be accepted without prejudice. Especially since it's come to light that hetero really isn't the majority. My view is that all of this is great. People have more freedom and can have the type of sexual behavior they wish, at the moment, without shame.Last edited by Strat-itis; 08-08-2025 at 08:02 AM.

Poll is missing the "All Of The Above" option.
-
yeah, I don't think the term bisexuality existed in 1940, or at least was commonly used, so the fact that more people are identifying as a term that didn't exist prior is not surprising.
More people are identifying as network engineers than they did in 1940 as well.

A British writer once recalled that he realised he was gay when he first saw Martin Landau in North by Northwest.

Emphasizing that it feels like an outside pain, but it's not really intended to be optional.
