    Thank you. I find the tune most comfortable starting with Am playing along what I hear in my head.

    In the jazz standard book, it starts Cm7 looking at the PDF version. My pocket version of the Real Book C, doesn't have Autumn Leaves.

    The Bb Real Book starts in Bm7.

    Learn it in G minor if you plan on going to a jam. You’ll impress the band knowing it in the “correct” key.

    First chord would be Cm.

    Yep. In many Jazz theory books such as Levine, Ronny Lee, Bert Ligon and others, they all tell you to practice every songs in every different keys. Because you don't know in what key your band members want to play, and mostly importantly what key the singer wants to sing the song in. They say, that is the real world music.

    If one knows the scales and notes in the number system, it might actually be quite simple thing to do, it looks. But I might be wrong on that.

    Gm=Bb

    after many years of playing it in G/Em (as a result of the famous Real Book chart) I recently started playing it Bb…much more breezy and “light” in that key…. like a fine Autumn day
