On this track Wes was playing some kind of 6-string bass guitar, generally thought to be a Gibson EB6 (like this one):

What a killer tune — Wes’s phrasing in that solo is so melodic yet rhythmically complex, it’s a masterclass in understatement. Transcribing it slowly really reveals how he crafts voice leading across the changes. I’ve been working on similar solos and it’s wild how much you pick up by ear rather than tab; it forces you to hear inner voices. On a different note, I read some worst & best streaming services posts the other day and it made me appreciate platforms that at least keep audio quality high for study. Thanks for posting the clip — this one’s going in my practice loop for the week.
