Is this stuff playable live?
-
Well, I played all the instruments in that album but there are few ways of doing it live, the cheap kinda hotel lobby guys which is basically play the beat with a laptop and then play your guitar live on top, the other one, I think JK had a trio like that, a real drummer, a live keys players who play bass with one hand and keys/sounds with the other one ad your guitar on top or actually put a band together and do it in a more live electronica way.

i’m still confused why call it LOFI?

are you just trying to simulate, digitally, Lofi
are you just trying to simulate, digitally, authentic Lofi music?
How how incredibly stupid.
-
Im not trying to simulate anything in particular, just expressing my self using this art form, this is my second lofi album, first one is on Spotify and third one is coming, is just for fun, I made those albums all improvised in a week or less each and I find it very interesting as esthetic proyect.
You think is all stupid? please elaborate, Im all ears, lets talk about real art
-
my point is in general. It seems stupid for someone to try to pretend like they don’t know what they’re doing. or am I still missing something? From your description it sounds like you make a recording that sounds like it was made by somebody that is an amateur and prone to making mistakes and so sounds a little shitty but in reality you really do know what you’re doing and all those errors are intentional. Is that right?

It's a pleasant sound. It's kind of hard to think of it as jazz, and I hate the word "jazzy," but I like the sound.Last edited by mr. beaumont; 11-13-2025 at 01:49 PM.

Not really, musically wise, to me, there are no errors, is all improvise, some parts better than others but has a jam vibes instead of a everything is ultra mega perfect and if not edited and quantize modern standard quality which is all a lie, on one hand and any IA can do that or even better so to me does not make much send to make instrumental records like that, on instagram yeah everything is perfect everyone is a one minute genius but this is a complete different art form. Sound wise yeah, there are some noises, textures, saturation and random crosstalk fx to make it sound a bit like a homey 90s 4 cassette demo-ish recording.
Hope this helps.

So, I understand the appeal of employing analog tools for artistic choice purposes or even nostalgia. In fact, I JUST got a Tascam Portastudio inspired by a really good guitar player I admire.
But, I find it dumb that people can't or won't commit to the idea. They fake it.
If you like the "look-and-feel" of black and white film, then buy a film camera and wet print your pictures.
If you like the sound of vinyl, then invest in a turntable and buy some records.
Etc.
This half-ass, phony stuff is entitled to no respect.
Now get off my lawn!
-
Sorry you dont get it man but music is a creative art and Jazz is all about finding your own voice, real Jazz not play swing chords and CC licks, even an AI can do that better than most of us and sonic wise there is a lot of creative and technical (Im a mixing engineer) paths to explore and create your own textures, freedom mate, Jazz is freedom.
-
I totally get it. We are free to do stupid things.

Nah, keep sharing. I recorded a whole electronic album back in the 2000's...some of us like a bunch of different stuff.

Hi Basshead, you have every right to put your music here, ignore the nay-sayers.

what do you mean you don’t believe in talent? Of course there’s talent. Some people are talented in some areas and some people aren’t.

Talent...define that, natural aptitudes? I buy it, kinda, I believe in practicing more than 8 hours a day for years with the best teachers and mentors you can get, period. As Metheny said in an interview, one thing he saw in his life a lot is people who were ¨talented¨thinking well I got it and then sleeping and doing nothing and getting nowhere while people like him kept practicing and evolving. I believe in that.

I think of it as people that are gifted. Someone that has perfect pitch, or someone that could play in the NHL at 17, or somebody that can get through a foyer college degree by the time they’re 12.

There are also people without talent who sleep, do nothing, and get nowhere; and to be honest we are a little tired of being left out of examples
